Joburg Open Live

A day after the US PGA Tour announced they were investing in South African golf development with support for Soweto Country Club’s rebirth, Keenan Davidse made an equally positive statement for the local game.

The Cape golfer opened with an eight-under-par 63 on the par-71 Bushwillow course at Randpark Golf Club to lead a major tri-sanctioned tournament for the first time in his career.

Davidse is one stroke clear at the top of the leaderboard in this Sunshine Tour, European Tour and Asian Tour sanctioned event.

JOHANNESBURG – Keenan Davidse showed he was over the illness that confined him to a hospital bed for four days by shooting an 8-under 63 Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Joburg Open.

The 28-year-old South African missed the cut in Mauritius last week as a flu virus ran through his family, and he checked himself into the hospital ahead of the Johannesburg event.

He said he ”didn’t really have any expectations” for the week but rolled in nine birdies on the Bushwillows Course at Randpark Golf Club, five of them coming in his final eight holes.

Among the six players tied for second place were Jared Harvey, Ockie Strydom and Erik van Rooyen – all South Africans.

Australian PGA round one live scores from Royal Pines on the Gold Coast. SIX birdies in seven holes has handed Adam Bland a shock first-round lead at the Australian PGA on the Gold Coast.

The left-handed South Australian was a 125-1 shot before the tournament started but he surged past one-time leader and Sergio Garcia (five-under) with a sizzling run from the fifth hole to the 11th hole to share the lead after the opening round at Royal Pines.

GOLD COAST, Australia (AP) — Sergio Garcia withstood two rain delays and his earliest career starting time for a 5-under 67 and was a stroke behind the leaders at the Australian PGA Championship.

Adam Bland, who bogeyed his final hole, and fellow Australian Jordan Zunic, who chipped in for eagle on his last, shared the first-round lead Thursday after afternoon starts.

Despite being in that post-Thanksgiving, pre-Christmas lull period, the big bucks have persuaded many of the world’s finest players to dust off their clubs and head to the Bahamas – never a bad place to be – for the Hero World Challenge, where a field of 18 (yep, including one Mr T. Woods) will duke it out for the $1 million top prize.

There’s also the Mauritius Open, co-sanctioned by the European, Asian and Sunshine Tours, to enjoy, but for our DFS money the pick of the tournaments this week has to be the Australian PGA Championship.

Hero World Challenge 2017 Live

Seventeen of the world’s best golfers will be among the field this week at the PGA Tour’s 19th Annual Hero World Challenge in New Providence, The Bahamas.

All the talk around the golf world, however, has been about the 18th member of the roster of players for this tournament, one Eldrick “Tiger” Woods, arguably the greatest golfer of all time.

Woods is the host of this select $3.5 million event but that’s not what’s been causing all the ruckus. What’s got folks excited is that Woods will play in the tournament, marking his first official competition on Tour since a missed cut last January in the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open.

The PGA Tour has officially ended, but unofficially, it’s just getting started. Tiger Woods makes his return this week at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, a tournament Woods hosts. He will play competitive golf for the first time since he withdrew from the Dubai Desert Classic in early 2017. What followed was a tumultuous few months that included his fourth back surgery and a DUI. But all of that is in the rearview mirror now, and Woods sounds ready to get after it again.

NEW PROVIDENCE, Bahamas — Tiger Woods played 18 holes on Wednesday, doing so in a few strokes under par and missing just one fairway in the pro-am for his Hero World Challenge. Tiger Woods ready for soft relaunch at the Hero World Challenge.
